"Sharing insights, strategies & resources with families interested in obtaining the
best possible education available for their students"

Monthly Planner - September

Welcome to the Back to School issue of the Monthly Planner Newsletter. Our mission is to share insight, strategies and inspiration to families interested in obtaining the best possible education available for their students.

The beginning of a new school year is an excellent time to reiterate the importance of education. The future success for young people today will be based on their intelligence. What better way to form a solid foundation of knowledge than being exposed to the best possible education that’s available?

At this point in the private school admission process:

The student should know the importance of education and realize that it requires hard work and due diligence on their part to stay current with their studies. Younger children should establish good work habits, organizational skills and learn to concentrate in preparation for school or the increased educational requirements required in upper grades. Older students should build and improve on these skills while expanding their intellectual curiosity.

It would be extremely helpful to establish how your student learns and processes information. There are several books on the subject of Multiple Intelligence. Refer to the Publications section for suggested books.

It is extremely important that you first determine your student's academic motivation and personality. By knowing how your student processes information will assist you and their teachers in presenting new materials to them in a way that is best for them to process the data for easier understanding. Knowing how your student learns also helps in selecting which school and it’s philosophy, goals and long-term plans best fulfill your student’s needs.

Input from your student’s former teachers about them and recommendations from school personnel, family and friends about suitable schools is very valuable information.

There is an abundance of educational associations and organizations that provide school lists, nationally, regionally and locally to help identify schools in your area that would be suitable for your student. Refer to the Educational Association links at the top of this page for a comprehensive listing.

Contact schools as early as possible in September so they can send you information about their school.

Two programs that are highly recommended in providing assistance to academically motivated students with the private school admissions process are:

School information should be reviewed and a calendar established immediately to keep track of test dates, open houses, interviews and other social functions that are hosted by schools to inform parents and their students about the schools.

Your student should be preparing for the entrance examinations. These are not tests that can be crammed for. Listed below are the two main testing centers that administer these tests or call the schools you and your student are interested in and ask about the admission test they will be administrating and if they can recommend in study workbook suitable for your student to use.
